Frequently Asked QuestionS

If you do not see your question listed, please contact us.

do·jo | ˈdōˌjō | noun (plural dojos) a room or hall in which judo and other martial arts are practiced. ORIGIN Japanese, from dō ‘way, pursuit’ + jō ‘a place’.

The Central New Jersey Budokan teaches application of traditional Shorin- Ryu Karate, Daito-Ryu Aikijujutsu, Okinawan Kobudo, and basics of Kenjutsu (sword/bokken - wooden sword). All martial arts listed can be researched. I have not in anyway, created my own system, or 'taken the best techniques and made my own'. I teach what and how I was taught.

Look for a reputable person with liability insurance.

  • A floor
  • Some walls
  • A reputable teacher who wants to teach
  • Students who are there to learn
  • Everything else is artificial.

The Central New Jersey Budokan's tuition is $100 per month. Prices of other schools vary.

The Central NJ Budokan focuses on traditional training and application. Meaning, regardless of rank or experience, everyone learns and trains the basics repetitiously. Real world application is stressed, and repeatedly work again and again, both through solo and partnered training. Techniques are taught through methods showing ergonomics, Physicological alignment, and focus. Under no circumstances will you find any mysticism, esoteric, or "Secret Teachings" other than the demand for hard work.

It is quite possible, that what is trained here may not be what you are looking for. Should that be the case, I will assist in pointing you in the direction of what is.

The first three classes you are there as an observer only.

If accepted as a student, you will be introduced to the rudimentary basics, and taught to your (then) physical and mental capabilities.

Space is limited. Please contact us to schedule your first visit.

Our classes are for adults only (18+), but if aptitude and maturity are shown, consideration will be given of older teens. A parent or guardian must be  present during the duration of the class.

Please note: all class are recorded through security footage.

  • Everyone is treated with respect and referred to by their last name (Mr./Ms.)
  • Shoes are left at the door.
  • You are expected to bring a clean gi and a change of clothes.
  • You may bring water or a sport beverage, alcohol & narcotics (legal or otherwise) are strictly prohibited.

Although working hard for the next belt is admirable and encouraged, the color of your belt (obi) is a way to measure progress and nothing more. Contrary to belief, a black belt does not make you invincible. Daily study and training is required to maintain and advance. The Central NJ Budokan does not endorse "black belt programs" or "fast tracking systems". There are no testing fees other than hard work, dedication and integrity.

In short: 100 years, or as long your efforts will allow.
